Green light for your mains connection

Plant Certificate Type B: Simplified procedure for medium-voltage connections

According to VDE-AR-N 4110, the Plant Certificate Type B applies to generation plants with a connected load of between 270 kW and 950 kW. Photovoltaic plants, in particular, fall within this power range.

The Plant Certificate Type B confirms the grid-compliant electrical planning of a generation plant (EZA) including all generation units (EZE) and components. This not only puts the responsible grid operator on the safe side.
From planning and construction to the connection and operation of an EZA, the Plant Certificate guarantees the long-term grid connection and the desired remuneration for the operators

Accelerated procedure for fast grid connection

Smaller and medium-sized companies in particular benefit from this Plant Certificate. For them, the simplified testing procedure means one thing above all: less bureaucracy, manageable costs, and fast commissioning.

New: The NELEV regulation applies below the threshold values of ≤ 500 kW installed power and ≤ 270 kW feed-in power – here, a simplified proof of unit and component certificates is required instead of a Plant Certificate.

What is the Plant Certificate Type B?

It confirms the grid-compliant electrical planning of your generation plant (EZA) including all generation units (EZE) and components.
From planning and construction to connection and operation, the certificate guarantees the long-term grid connection and the desired remuneration.

Plant Certificate Type B: Advantages at a glance

  • Simplified procedure: Only essential requirements are checked. Tests on network feedback or dynamic behavior are not required.
  • Lower costs: Fewer tests and less documentation reduce the effort.
  • Accelerated commissioning: Until December 31, 2025, the certificate can also be issued provisionally.
  • Flexible submission: Missing documents can be added within 18 months.

FAQ: frequently asked questions and answers

Which documents are necessary for the Plant Certificate Type B?

For the simplified procedure according to VDE-AR-N 4110 you need:

  • Data sheet with technical data of the generation plant or the storage system (form E.8)
  • Single-phase overview circuit diagram of the EZA
  • Network feedback from consumer installations in mixed installations (form E.2)
  • Cover sheets of the unit and component certificates (forms E.13, E.14)
  • Protection and control concept as well as communication plan
  • Technical data of the existing EZE
  • To be completed by the grid operator: Grid operator questionnaire (form E.9)
  • Site plan

How does Plant Certification Type B work in practice?

Proof that the planned plant complies with the necessary grid connection rules is provided solely on the basis of documents. For the issue of the Plant Certificate Type B, these are, on the one hand, the electrical planning of the generation plant (EZA) and, on the other hand, the type certificates of all units and components. Using statistical and dynamic simulations, the certification body calculates on this basis whether everything is in order. If the test report is positive, the Plant Certificate Type B is issued. The applicant can submit it to the grid operator, thereby confirming that the EZA has been technically planned in accordance with the guidelines and can feed in the generated electricity.

With our CertApp, you can keep track of all steps and deadlines in real time.

Which deadlines apply to Plant Certification Type B?

Certificate Type B must be available before the generation units are connected to the grid.
Recommendation: Commission the certification several months before the planned commissioning

How long does the Plant Certificate Type B remain valid?

The Plant Certificate Type B is the first step towards commissioning a decentralized generation plant with up to 950 kW. It is valid for up to 18 months and must then be replaced by the declaration of conformity. This is the final proof that the plant meets all requirements.

What steps follow after the Plant Certificate Type B has been issued?

The Plant Certificate proves that the electrical planning of the generation plant (EZA) is compliant with the guidelines and the grid. The grid operators then request the so-called declaration of conformity. This must be available no later than 18 months after the Plant Certificate Type B has been issued and is also part of the service catalog of MKH Greenergy Cert GmbH.

What happens if requirements are not met?

If the declaration of conformity is not available after 18 months, the grid operator can disconnect the plant from the grid.
Tip: To minimize this risk, it is recommended that missing documents be submitted within twelve months of commissioning.
